Upon transferring to Southwest Minnesota State University, Kenzie decided she was going to focus on school and God and not let distractions come. Approximately one month before transferring, the cross country and track and field coach resigned, leaving the position open and Kenzie in a tough place to know if she should still go to SMSU or not. She had a great relationship with the coach and was literally the only person she knew at the school. She had an inkling there was more to the picture and that if it was meant to be, a coach change would not stop her from pursuing what she knew was right in her heart. So, she decided to go. She was asked to take part in the new coach interviews held on campus in late July before officially moving to Marshall. Not knowing barely anyone, she went in to a conference room with other student athletes, and a coach candidate, to help voice opinions on who to hire and to ask questions. Right away she noticed this guy in athletic clothing, who looked pretty muscular, and one who spoke passionately about different topics that he hoped the future coach would bring to the program. Little did she know that was her future husband. According to Alex, he definitely noticed Kenzie, but couldn’t muster up courage to talk to her that time. The day passed, and they did not talk, but that was the official first time they saw each other
Fast forward to the fall of 2015, when both Alex and Kenzie were juniors, and it was Kenzie’s first semester at SMSU. Kenzie was trying to make friends and made a goal to be as involved as possible, as she had left a very difficult life season at Winona State. She knew if she got involved, she would meet people and stay busy. One guy named Josh Behning (Alex’s now best friend and best man!!) was very intentional about inviting Kenzie to clubs, such as Campus Crusade for Christ and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Josh also brought his good friend Alex to these clubs. That is where Kenzie and Alex started officially talking, and eventually spending time together. Alex and Josh were always willing to hang out with Kenzie and to help her. According to Kenzie, they were funny, but also top notch respectful and loving to her—almost like two really good brothers. One late night after ice skating with friends, Kenzie noticed online that this stud named Alex Weis kicked butt at a track and field meet at the University of Minnesota and she wanted to congratulate him. She got his number from a friend that went to high school with Alex and texted him. She was so nervous and worried that he would think she was crazy for texting him at 11:30pm, but she went for it. That is what started their long season of serious talking and eventually, dating. After many game nights, basketball games and time spent together with Josh, Alex and other friends, Kenzie realized there might be more to her and Alex’s relationship than just friends. Eventually, she became a member and officer in the American Sign Language Club, which Alex was the President of. They bonded through various activities, Bible studies, as well as just being friends.
One day Alex brought Kenzie with him to Luverne, MN (his hometown) to “pick up some supplies for ASL Club” …. Kenzie was really confused and sure one of his friends could do it instead, and why he wanted her to go with him for a whole day to do this. All along Alex had a plan that that was their first official date, but knew he had to be slightly under cover with a strong-willed woman who could figure most anything sneaky like this out! That did end up being their first of many dates. Alex was VERY intentional with pursuing Kenzie’s heart. He ended up asking her to officially be his girlfriend at SMSU in the Wildlife Reserve Area next to a cross that he hand built himself. After Kenzie told him “she needed more time”, he patiently and loyally waited until she was ready. After they became official, Alex and Kenzie enjoyed spending time together, growing in their relationship with Christ and getting to know their families and friends more.
The official engagement happened at the Wilderness Fellowship Ministries; a rustic camp Kenzie’s extended family attends each winter. Alex came along the year previous, and then again in 2018. He intended to propose around Christmastime but knew that both he and Kenzie would be out of the country for extended times apart shortly after, so he waited until February. He had it all planned out; he walked to the location (frozen lake) with Kenzie’s Uncle Rich the morning of to mark out the spots where he was going to propose later in the day. They prayed together and had a plan all ready. Little did Kenzie know, she was going to be proposed to later that day. Alex told her he was helping “stoke the fires in the cabin with Rich” that morning while she was still sleeping. According to Kenzie, Alex also had quite the pep in his step all day, and even put on jeans. This was a big deal, because usually most people just wear athletic clothes for being active all weekend. Kenzie questioned him, but he played it off well. Kenzie states that he was just really excited to get to the sunset, almost with a jump in his step. Kenzie just wanted to walk slow and enjoy the beauty surrounding. Alex just kept encouraging her that there would be a beautiful sunset ahead! Even though she was startled, Kenzie went with it, as she likes adventure and a good sunset ;). Alex brought her to a beautiful sunset on a frozen lake with a small cabin nearby. Alex explained how he loves spending time with Kenzie, coming to the Wilderness with her family and growing in their faith together. He then got down on one knee asking if he could continue doing so for the rest of his life as he asked Kenzie to marry him. After being in shock for many minutes, she said “YES!!” and the rest is history! August 11th is when it will finally be official!

Q: Do we have to do the traditional formal pictures?
A: No, absolutely not! Our style is genuine, and that is what makes us different. Though formals are nice, it is the shots with raw emotion, the ones we get when our couples don't know we are photographing them, that people fall in love with.
Q: Do I really have to wait 4 weeks to get my images after my wedding day? 1 month seems a bit long….
A: We say that to allow cushion just in case of emergencies. In most cases, you will receive your images in less than 4 weeks.
Q: I often hear that couples regret not investing in a good photographer on their wedding day. Tell me why this is?

Taylor is one of Kenzie’s best friends since childhood. She is a gem and has been someone Kenzie has grown through many awkward stages of life with. Kenzie met her through church as a young girl, which sparked their relationship. They participated in many life events together, such as attending church camp, singing in choir at Austin High School and teaching Sunday School for various years, among many other things. Somethings Kenzie appreciates about Taylor are that she is a genuine friend, always wants the best for others, can share a laugh like no one else and can pick up on life after not seeing each other for long amounts of time.
Paiton, also known as “Paity” to Kenzie, is like a little sister. Paity’s whole family are good friends of the Besels, but beyond that Paity and Kenzie have a bond like no one else. They got to know each other being teammates in cross country and track at Austin High School. Even though there is a 5-year age gap between them, their relationship is nothing but special. Paity was in 7th grade when Kenzie was a senior in HS, but their relationship has continued to flourish over the years.
Paige is one of Kenzie’s great friends from high school but has known her since early middle school. She was a great friend then, and still is. She is a free spirit and is someone Kenzie could, and still can, always count on for a great adventure. Kenzie appreciates her spontaneity, desire for growing in her faith and spreading the love that comes with it. She is genuine, and Kenzie states that “everyone should have a Paige in their lives!”.
Amanda is one of the first people Kenzie met on a visit to SMSU before she transferred. She was someone the at-the-time track coach told Kenzie that would be an excellent friend, roommate and sister in Christ. He told Kenzie that Amanda is someone who takes her relationship with Christ seriously and would be someone to get to know. Fast forward a year and Kenzie and Amanda were roommates and good friends. Kenzie appreciates Mandy’s kind heart, intentionality for loving others, her silly personality and her heart for Christ.
Taylor Rambo is the kind of friend everyone needs. She is hilarious, always up for an adventure, yet has a heart of gold. She is a nurse and puts her full self into all that she does! Kenzie got to know her through Winona State Cross Country. One of Kenzie’s favorite memories of their relationship was on their first day of practice doing some very difficult repeats, Taylor looked up and said “wanna be buddies through this?!” and that was the moment Kenzie knew she was someone to not let go of as a friend. She has consistently reached out to Kenzie after Kenzie transferred to SMSU, which is something that has helped keep their friendship going.
Clara is one of those friends whose laugh is contagious and that you won’t ever forget no matter how long it has been since you’ve seen each other. Clara is someone Kenzie got to know through the WSU CC team as well. She was also someone Kenzie went to the Ultimate Training Camp with after freshman year at WSU. There, the two grew in their friendship, as well as their relationship with Jesus. Clara is someone you can always count on for a good time, but also has a beautiful heart. Like Taylor R., she is a nurse and does a great job. Clara has also been intentional in maintaining her friendship with Kenzie, as she and Taylor R. frequently meet up with her in Northfield, MN for dates, which is something that means so much to her!
Selena is a great friend of both Kenzie and Alex from SMSU. She became friends with Kenzie through biology classes, and eventually met Alex in the American Sign Language Club. Since then, Kenzie and Alex have gotten to know her well and appreciate her hilarious personality, strong work ethic and all-around kind heart that everyone enjoys being around.
Josh is one of Alex’s best friends from college and is also a great friend of Kenzie. He was a track and field teammate to Alex, as well as a roommate. He and Alex grew close over the last few years both in their friendship and most importantly in their faith. Josh is known for his humor and energy he brings to any room and Kenzie and Alex couldn’t be more excited to have him be the best man in their wedding!
Tucker is Mckenzie’s brother, only sibling and one of her best friends! Tucker has been someone Kenzie has leaned on, cried with and mostly laughed with throughout their lives. Tucker is an energetic, loving and all around great guy to be with who both Alex and Kenzie love spending time with. Yeehaw!!
Drew is Alex’s only brother and he is always fun to be around! He is supportive, funny and adventurous. He is an avid runner, future nurse, but is well known for his musical talents, which will be on display during the wedding ;)!
Matthew is one of Alex’s best friends from Luverne High School, where they both graduated from. Matthew and Alex really got to know each other through high school sports and various activities. Alex is now the Godfather to his daughter, Hazel. Alex appreciates Matthew for his friendship, kindness, and all around fun-loving personality.
Kale is someone Alex met while playing on a Deaf/hard of hearing softball team. He is a genuine friend and someone both Kenzie and Alex enjoy spending time with. Something Alex really appreciates about Kale is his stellar humor and overall fun personality!
Brice is one of Alex’s cousins who he has grown close to from childhood, to now being adults. Brice is always up for some competition and spending time with family, which are two of Alex’s favorite things! Brice has a great sense of humor but is also kind-hearted and would do anything to help others if they were in need.
Shawn is one of Alex’s good friends from SMSU, and he was also a teammate on the SMSU track and field team. Shawn is known for his bubbly personality and making others laugh.
Taylor is also a friend of Alex’s from SMSU, and also a past roommate. Taylor, like Alex, enjoys playing softball and is an overall fun person to be around
